Mercy Medical Center

This is all part of the philosophy of Mercy Hospitals to provide the best quality to all those who come to them for care. From the minute you walk through the door you can expect every employee in the hospital, from clerks to doctors to have one goal. The healing of the patient, as well as the emotional and spiritual help that the entire family needs is part of their commitment to excellence. Mercy hospitals have been the recipient of many national awards that recognize this commitment to excellence.

It’s important to note that Mercy hospitals are not just concerned about in-patients, but have an entire network of services that are there to serve the community at large. These come in the form of community education on health issues, health screenings for the community and outreach program events held on a yearly basis. Mercy hospitals have also provided their communities with over $28 million of care and services that are free and uncompensated. The have a commitment to the community at large as well as their in-patient residents.

One program that Mercy hospital is proud of is their Mercy Homeless Center. This shelter is the only one that is operated and funded by a health care system. As the downturn in the economy continues, many people have started to list their car as their home residence. Seeing a need like this in the community, Mercy hospitals opened up a shelter for 25 women and their children, allowing them to stay for as long as 30 days. They have now provided over 80,000 nights at the shelter.

They also provide low cost and free medical services. With a core value that believes that everyone is entitled to access to health care, they opened a health center that serves Janesville, IL and Beloit, IL. They now give care to those who are uninsured as well as people who may be under-insured. Physicians are also volunteers at this clinic, proving a dedication of the hospital staff to the community at large.

Mercy hospitals are also providing support groups in areas where chronic illnesses are a problem, and opening up a resource to those who have similar problems. There are almost 50 such groups in Wisconsin and Illinois and all at no cost or very low cost. This resource is invaluable to helping people to help each other, in order to move forward in their lives. Many former participants come back in order to help others and show their gratitude for those who helped them. Fostering an environment like this helps the community as a whole.

Mercy hospitals encourage all their workers, from clerks to doctors to give of their time and expertise, and volunteer in their communities. The goal is to help effect positive changes in the communities that they serve. Many volunteer at local charities and give thousands of hours yearly. As well they have also donated over $550,000 to community organizations. The philosophy of being a total care facility goes far beyond the hospital doors, and it’s why this is one of the most respect organizations in the communities that they serve.
