Does naturally-present free glutamate (not added MSG) in unprocessed foods present any risks?
I fully believe that “artificial” or added MSG in foods is not healthy and can indeed present neuro/neuroendocrine health risks. However, many foods (as shown in http://www.msgfacts.com/chart.html) are quoted by this industry group as having plenty of “free glutamate.” Would the consumption of naturally-processed whole foods with no added MSG but with intrinsic “free glutamate” pose any health or neurological risks over the long term?
I’m concerned because I eat plenty of walnuts (which are quoted by the industry site as having a high level of free glutamate), mainly for the health benefits associated with them (natural plant-based shortchain omega 3, antioxidants, Vit E; association with good heart & mental health, etc..). I would hate to have to lower my walnut consumption in light of this.
well MSG content which is often added in our foods (chinese takeaways etc) IS HARMFUL to us. but if the msg content in food is naturally possesed, then u dont need to worry about it because it shouldnt harm u. If it did.. then im sure there are many other people who eat walnuts as well and im sure the product wud hve been taken off the shelves!
dont worry!
