Can my car be towed from a health services parking lot?

I was wondering if my car could legally be towed from a county parking lot for health services. There is a parking deck next to the parking lot (owned by my school but i cant get a pass to park there) and next to the parking deck is my classroom building. My class is at 8 am and there are hardly any cars in the parking lot at that time and by the time I leave. Today they had a security guard out there saying I could not park there. My question is if they can legally say I can’t park there. The only signs posted are when you first come in and all it says is Visitor parking. By the way this is in North Carolina.

It says ” visitor parking” … if they notice your car parked there and know you are not their visitor, they can have it towed without warning to you. Yes they can have it towed.
